Sidney Myer Music Bowl (Melbourne)
|
|
|
Originally
opened in 1959, the Myer Music Bowl is a celebrated, rare
survivor of Melbourne’s heroic post-war period of architecture.
After 40 years the Bowl was badly run down, and grossly inadequate
in support spaces. The brief asked for a complete upgrade
of all facilites to make the Bowl an eminently attractive
performing venue for audiences and performers alike and to
integrate commercially supportive facilites such as hire-out
function spaces and a cafe.
The refurbishment was carried out with due respect for the
recognised Heritage value of the original, preserving, reconstructing
and restoring the essential elements, reinforcing links with
its formal precedents, while nurturing its magic and rejuvenating
its cultural life as one of Melbourne’s most loved venues.
