The George Street Apartments are an innovative, ecologically sustainable medium density housing development located in inner Melbourne.

The developers, Contemporary Green Design, outlined the following design objectives in the preliminary brief: ‘The apartments must be environmentally exemplary, modern, but sympathetic to the historic streetscape, distinctive, creative and in general, a positive contribution to community and individual well being. Secondly, they have to maximise amenity, be commercially viable and responsive to the local government, heritage and community concerns regarding multi-residential development.’

Architecturally, the design was developed to achieve an appropriate contextual response to the street, a close relation to its neighbours, as well as a strong sense of individual identity.
