Situated on a 20
hectare farm beside a stream in the lower reaches of a beautiful
Gippsland Valley, the Hackford family home is surrounded
by undulating pasture land and fingers of bush.
A pool and fountain located over an underground water course
in the walled garden feed a waterfall and rockpools flowing
in a man-made fern gully bridged by the house. A series
of terraces drop to the stream.
The house stabilises about the vertical and horizontal
axes in the heart of the house and an awareness of its centre,
periphery and the horizon is envouraged.
